The Cabinet held its weekly regular meeting in Baghdad on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi.
The Cabinet discussed ensuring urgent improvements to public services in Iraq, with a focus on Basra and other southern provinces.
The Cabinet allocated 3 billion Iraqi dinars to Basra province to rehabilitate water projects, and a further 9 billion dinars to expedite the implementation of the contract to construct 52 schools within three months.
The Cabinet allocated 7 billion Iraqi dinars to the Ministry of Water Resources to support Al-Rumaitha water station in Al-Muthanna province.
The Cabinet agreed to form a Reconstruction and Services Committee for the provinces to be chaired by the Prime Minister to assess public services and to accelerate the completion of service projects to address Iraqi citizen’s needs.
The Cabinet voted and agreed that Iraq should join the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, Helsinki, 1992.
The Cabinet voted and agreed that Iraq should join the Convention concerning Minimum Standards of Social Security No. 102 of 1952.
