    The Cabinet of Ministers agrees on a set of electoral reforms


    The Cabinet of Ministers held its regular session on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Adil Abd Al-Mahdi.

    The Cabinet approved the amendment of the provincial councils’ electoral law number 12 for 2018 and decided that provincial elections are to be postponed; a new date is yet to be determined.

    The Cabinet also approved draft law on the High Electoral Commission and referred it to the Council of Representatives based on the provisions of Articles (61/clause I and 80/clause II) of the Constitution, taking into account the observations established by the Ministers and the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council.

    As per the law 59 of 2017, the Cabinet also approved instructions to facilitate the recruitment of Iraqis who have completed a higher education degree.

    The Cabinet approved a reduction of the fees stipulated in the table attached to the law on imposing vehicle fees for the purposes of maintenance of streets and bridges number 40 for the year 2015 by 50% for each type of vehicle.
